Such a copycat!!

Yep!  I'm referring to myself.  I am a HUGE copycat of some of the other awesome bloggers that I stalk keep up with daily.  That is why I knew when I saw Susie Harris' "I am" that I would have to make it.  Hers was so beautiful and so inspiring.  I loved every detail of that sign.  There was only one problem.  I cannot paint those beautiful fonts!!  What is a girl to do??  Well, I'll tell you.  A girl is to cut all of those amazing fonts on her Silhouette in vinyl and use those to make this sign.

Here is what I did:
1.  Take a cabinet door bought at the Habitat Re-Store and sand it down
(I had no idea how big her sign was.  I got the largest "most square" door they had)
2.  Put down first layer of vinyl and spray with Khaki spray paint all over
3.  Put down second layer of vinyl over dry khaki paint (do not peel first layer up--I made that mistake DUH!! and had to put it all back!!)
4.  Spray paint again with black paint.  Peel vinyl off when dry.
5.  Sand edges and seal

Two things--clearly the date on my camera was wrong.  Not sure what happened there.  The other thing is that mine is not NEARLY as beautiful as Susie's.  The hand painting makes a huge difference in my opinion.

These pics aren't great and a bit hard to see but I do love the way it turned out.  Now that Susie has her tutorial posted, I'm going to attempt her method.  Thanks for sharing with us Susie!  Go check hers out and look at all of her beautiful creations while you are there!!  Susie's Blog

I do love it... if you want the painted look, next time cute the words out and peel out the letters... then lay the vinyl down, stencil over it and peel the vinyl off... so pretty!
